Scientific History
Giza research blossomed in the 20th century. Since an exhaustive chronology with background descriptions would exceed the scope of this book, I will limit myself to the essential stages and discoveries, which provide explanations for both the megalithic buildings and perhaps also for the recent building of walls around the Giza Plateau (see on page 280).
I have studied the books listed in the bibliography and also conducted Internet research on all the essential persons to trace and present the current state of research. To avoid a flood of sources I will limit myself to just a few especially poignant statements and reports quoted directly within the text. My summary is the result of a methodical, detective-like search for clues. Many sources from all orientations and directions point towards underground complexes in Giza and the legacy of pre-dynastic cultures to be found there. The connecting thread begins in the mystical realm, because that is what has lent the impetus to modern Giza research. Since this information is attributed to mythical, mediumistic or occult sources, it is hardly considered in scientific discussions. For me, they are part of it. The central topic begins in the mystical realm, because it is from there that the impulse for modern scientific Giza research took place.
Cayce and Giza research
One source from the pseudo-scientific sector caused an uproar with the statements he made while in a trance – among them a telling of pre-dynastic Egyptian history – and no discussion on the topic would be complete without him: Edgar Cayce (1877-1945).
The Edgar Cayce Foundation (ECF) was founded by his son, Hugh Lynn, in 1948 and has since played an essential role in more recent Giza research. The ECF is occupied with the verification of the messages received by Edgar Cayce while in trance. Many of the statements regard medical and therapeutic questions, and have since proved to be reliable, some even sensational. This would lead to the conclusion that his information about prehistoric advanced cultures should not be automatically discounted.
Edgar Cayce was a photographer who lost his voice in 1901, and as a result could speak only in a whisper. After no doctor was able to help him, friends suggested that he seek out a hypnotist to see whether it might be a psychosomatic problem. As a young Christian, he initially turned down this suggestion. However, desperate after nearly a year with no voice, he visited the therapist who hypnotized him and asked his patient about his illness. Cayce replied with a healthy voice and told the hypnotist what was to be done to cure him. When he awoke from the trance, he had no memory of what he had said, but the suggested treatment led to his recovery.
The doctor who had attended the experiment then wanted to see whether Cayce was able to help other people with his unconscious skills. The results were again astonishing. While in trance, Cayce used medical terminology that he did not possess in his waking life and provided detailed information about treatment methods and medicines. But, when he learned that his readings were being misused by certain individuals to gain profit by asking for stock prognoses or results of future horse races, he put a stop to it and decided to concentrate on his profession and family.
More than a decade later, in 1918, an accident occurred: An exploding can of flash powder burned the eyes of his son, Hugh Lynn. The doctors prognosed permanent blindness and recommended that one eye be removed. In desperation, his father decided to attempt another reading. The information that he provided while in a trance led to the saving of both of his son’s eyes and the restoration of his vision. In gratitude, from that day on Edgar Cayce placed his skills at the disposal of other people, free of charge.
In the following 27 years until his death, he provided around 14,000 readings, assisted by his wife and all recorded in writing. Nearly two-thirds of the Cayce readings regarded medical matters, through which many people were ultimately healed. The previous lives of the person in question were often discussed in the readings, in which they were referred to as “entities“. Another topic that was often discussed was Egypt. Here are some examples:
“22. Before that we find the entity was in that land now known as the Egyptian,
during the periods when there were those coming from the Atlantean
land and bringing the records.“ (Archive 764/1, December 18, 1934)
“17. Before that we find the entity was in that land now known as the Atlantean,
during those periods when there were the attempts of the individuals
to leave same through the knowledge that there must be very soon the
destruction of same.
“18. The entity was among those who went to the land now known as the
Egyptian.“ (Archive 708/1, October 25, 1934)
“7. After the turmoils, the return first of the Atlantean through the political
influences brought to bear by the numbers of Atlanteans that were sojourning
and entering into the land, as there were evidences and prophecies of Atlantis
being broken up, and Egypt was chosen as one of those places where the records of that activity or peoples were to be established.“ (Archive 275/38,
January 16, 1934)
The information received by Edgar Cayce while in a trance repeatedly indicated that there remained many things in Egypt that had not yet been discovered, particularly records of an earlier culture. He also provided information detailing where this legacy was to be found:
“6. . . . Many are the temples builded later in the plains that are yet to
be uncovered, near the Sphinx, as seen at present, which represents a portion
of contemporary forces and contemporaries during the period.“ (Archive
900/275, October 11, 1926)
“15. (Q) In referring to the uncovered pyramids in the Egyptian land, near what
present place are these pyramids? (A) Between that as is known as the Mystery
of the Ages [Sphinx] and the river.“ (Archive 2124/3, October 2, 1931)
“24. The entity was among those that aided in the actual building of some
of these buildings that still remain, and in the preparation of that one yet to
be uncovered—the hall of records—where much may be brought to light.“
(Archive 519/1, February 20, 1934)
“32. With the periods of reconstruction after the return of the Priest, the
entity joined with those who were active in putting the records in forms that
were partially of the old characters of the ancient or early Egyptian, and part
in the newer form of the Atlanteans.
“33. These may be found, especially when the house or tomb of records is
opened, in a few years from now.“ (Archive 2537/1, July 17, 1941)
“36. . . . For the entity‘s tomb then was a part of the Hall of Records, which
has not yet been uncovered. It lies between—or along that entrance from the
Sphinx to the temple—or the pyramid; in a pyramid, of course, of its own.“
(Archive 2329/3, May 1, 1941)
“6. . . . These, and many findings, as given, may be found in the base of the
left forearm, or leg, or the prostrate beast, in the base of foundation. Not
in the underground Channel (as was opened by the ruler many years, centuries,
later), but in the real base, or that as would be termed in the present
parlance as the cornerstone.“ (Archive 953/24, June 12, 1926)
When asked what lies within the Hall of Records, Edgar Cayce replied in trance:
“11. A record of Atlantis from the beginnings of those periods when the
Spirit took form or began the encasements in that land, and the developments
of the peoples throughout their sojourn, with the record of the first
destruction and the changes that took place in the land, with the record of
the Sojournings of the peoples to the varied activities in other lands, and a record of the meetings of all the nations or lands for the activities in the
destructions that became necessary with the final destruction of Atlantis
and the buildings of the pyramid of initiation, with who, what, where,
would come the opening of the records that are as copies from the sunken
Atlantis; for with the change it must rise (the temple) again.
“This in position lies, as the sun rises from the waters, the line of the shadow
(or light) falls between the paws of the Sphinx, that was later set as the sentinel
or guard, and which may not be entered from the connecting chambers
from the Sphinx‘s paw (right paw) until the TIME has been fulfilled when the
changes must be active in this sphere of man‘s experience.
Between, then, the Sphinx and the river.“ (Archive 378/16, October 29, 1933)
“17. . . . There is a chamber or passage from the right forepaw to this entrance
of the record chamber, or record tomb.“ (Archive 5748/6, July 1, 1932)
According to statements made by Edgar Cayce, there were different construction phases in Giza, in which old parts were destroyed to create new:
“29. As the monuments were being rebuilt in the plains of that now called
the pyramid of Gizeh, this entity builded, laid, the foundations; that is,
superintended same, figured out the geometrical position of same in relation
to those buildings as were put up of that connecting the sphinx. And the
data concerning same may be found in the vaults in the base of the sphinx.“
(Archive 195/14, July 8, 1925)
“7. (Q) What was the date of the actual beginning and ending of the construction
of the Great Pyramid? (A) Was one hundred years in construction. Begun
and completed in the period of Araaraart‘s time, with Hermes and Ra.
“8. (Q) What was the date B.C. of that period? (A) 10,490–10,390 before the
Prince entered into Egypt.“ (Archive 5748/6, July 1, 1932)
“2. . . . Some 10,500 before the coming of the Christ into the land, there was
first that attempt to restore and to add to that which had been begun on what is
called the Sphinx, and the treasure or storehouse facing same, between this and
the Nile, in which those records were kept by Arart and Araaraart in the period.
“3. Then, with Hermes and Ra (those that assumed or took up the work of
Araaraart) there began the building of that now called Gizeh, with which
those prophecies that had been in the Temple of Records and the Temple
Beautiful were builded, in the building of this that was to be the hall of the
initiates of that sometimes referred to as the White Brotherhood.“ (Archive
5748/5, June 30, 1932)
Directly following this statement in the same session, the trance voice said that Jesus and before him, John the Baptist, received the highest initial initiations in the pyramid and that this would happen again when the Messiah returned – and he gave a date indicating when this was to occur:
“9. . . . In this same pyramid did the Great Initiate, the Master, take those last
of the Brotherhood degrees with John, the forerunner of Him, at that place.
As is indicated in that period where entrance is shown to be in that land that
was set apart, as that promised to that peculiar peoples, as were rejected—as
is shown in that portion when there is the turning back from the raising up of
Xerxes as the deliverer from an unknown tongue or land, and again is there
seen that this occurs in the entrance of the Messiah in this period—1998.“
(Archive 5748/5, June 30, 1932)
The year 1998 was named differently in the readings. Among other references, it was stated that the Hall of Records would be discovered between 1996 and 1998 in connection with the return of Christ, initially by “three who would make of the perfect way of life”. However, it would still take “many years” until the knowledge reached the public.
In trance, Cayce also predicted that his work would reach the general public through a man named Stearn, and in fact it was the author Jess Stearn, who topped the US bestseller list for months with his book “Edgar Cayce – The Sleeping Prophet”. Cayce‘s messages were especially helpful in medical matters and also often proved to be correct, but not always.
What he stated in regard to philosophy, history or prophecy is not to be considered as being beyond a doubt. Particularly since some of his prophesies have not occurred, which his followers admit: “… Cayce‘s fallibility is shown by the changes to the land which he predicted for the years 1936 to 1938. Nothing of the sort ever happened.”*
Other predictions also (luckily) failed to take place: For example, Cayce warned that New York would be flooded in 1997 and that Japan would sink in 1998. And as mentioned above, he also predicted the return of the Christ for this time, which would be accompanied by important discoveries in Egypt. He predicted the end of a global epoch at the turn of the 21st century and the beginning of the Age of Aquarius; upon which the Earth would shift its axis.
It is easy to imagine what must have gone through the minds of Cayce‘s followers in the nineteen-eighties and nineties, who were convinced that a new age would dawn in the year 2000 and that around that time a discovery would be made in the Giza Pyramids that would herald the return of the Messiah. Secret research also intensified in the years 1996 to 1998. The decision to construct the GEM and the Giza Wall must also have been made around that time.
It must, however, be taken in consideration that our calculation of time is very imprecise, for a variety of reasons. Beginning with the fact that contemporary Western timekeeping methods began with the birth of Jesus Christ and all time has been divided into B.C. and A.D. His birth year, however, can thus far only be determined with any accuracy to within 6 years. Added to this uncertainty is the evolution of calendar over the centuries, especially the switch to the Gregorian calendar. Then there are the leap years that have been added in contemporary times and the procession of the Earth itself. Taken together, this issue provides leeway in the calculation of year dates ranging from 2 to 6 years, depending on perspective and calculating method. In 2018 we would actually have the year 2012 (the detailed documentation and calculations can be found in the book DEI LEGACY.
Cayce‘s core statement about early history
Many statements made in what was a total of 14,256 trance readings by Edgar Cayce, referring to lost civilizations and sunken continents, and which in this context also describe the prehistory of Egypt. The information provided matches the few ancient Egyptian tales known today, all of which speak of long pre-dynastic epochs. In addition, the anonymous, gigantic megalithic structures bear witness to a construction technique that is astonishing for the time, and which remains mysterious to us today.
I refer back to Solon’s report (see on page 163) that spoke of the history of Atlantis, which he heard in the Temple of Sais. The information he provided that was subsequently retold by Plato and which is still widely known today, has been confirmed by other ancient sources. Diodorus Siculus (see on page 163), in the 3rd volume his “Library of History”, quoted the historical writer Dionysos of Mytilene, who conducted many years of research in 200 B.C. in the library of Alexandria about the history of early civilizations. While his writings were destroyed in the first burning of the library (47 B.C. by Caesar), through the partially surviving tales told by Diodorus, we still have several significant sections in which Dionysos states that he found stories in the ancient texts that were similar to what the Priests of Sais told the Grecian visitor Solon.
The discoveries of the last 100 years in Giza
The following is a list and summary of the most important discoveries of the last 100 years, without claim to completeness. I have selected the discoveries related to the chambers at the Sphinx and in and under the pyramids.
This is an excerpt from the book GIZA LEGACY.
